Black Theology

Friday, September 14th, 2007

By Patricia Coleman Black power was the political source of black theology, but black theology had another source –black religion. Black religion, as it evolved from the remnants of African traditional religions and slave religion, was the spiritual source of black theology. Although one can speak about these sources as distinct entities, they are, in reality, inseparable. The traditional Western separation of the physical and the spiritual, the sacred and the secular, is foreign to the Afro-American sensibility. Black religion provides black theology with a worldview and a metaphysical base from which to view the physical world and the social order. It has historically affirmed the inherent worth of black people, their dignity as creations of God even in inhumane situations, and God’s special providential care for them. The emergence of black theology in the 1960s was a continuation of this radical tradition in the form of intellectual freedom from the canons of white theological thought. This radicalism was not limited to the black church, but was seen in a variety of social and political expressions in the black community. However, because the black community did not divide the world into the sacred and the secular, the presence of the spirit of freedom in settings other than the ecclesiastical was quite consistent with the Afro-American religious sensibility. Black religion, especially its creative use of symbolism, gave black theology a distinctive language with which to express the deepest convictions and longings of an oppressed people. Its prayers, poetry, sermons, songs, and litanies provided the context for the telling of the black story. The folklore of black people contains stories which are more than entertainment. These stories embody, in narrative form, the historical hope and eschatological confidence of black people. Black theology has always been expressed in the language of black religion and folklore. Because it emerged from the experiential context of black people, black theology expressed the deepest religious commitments of black people in a language they created. Therefore, black theology could not remain true to its identity and adopt the language of Europe and North America . It had to be expressed as a folk theology. Webconference Applications For Marketing

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

By Michel Dionne Problems Communications for marketing should play an essential role not only from a promotional point of view but also from the point of view of the generation of qualified prospects for their sales team. The key people are committed to organizing brainstorming sessions and focus groups, and in conceiving and validating concepts. Press conferences, sometimes lasting several weeks, are also held during product launches. For the fruition of these efforts, the prospects have to be carefully identified as qualified. Otherwise, these efforts will be futile, and the team will have to begin again without being able to capitalize their exchanges and use them repeatedly. Solution The marketing team announces on their WEB site the online presentations (WEBinar), for which the visitors have to register in advance. The brainstorming sessions among colleagues, the focus groups, press conferences, and product launching are done long distance during web conferences. In addition, these events are completely recorded, both voice and images, and then copied by different means and placed on the WEB site, the local network, and on CD or DVD in order to be reused or replayed for new prospects, employees, and partners. Results The added advantage of WEBinars is that the participants are identified as qualified beforehand. It’s only later on that they are considered as prospects for the sales team - this produces better “closing” performance from the team. The time devoted to events is significantly reduced. The response rate of the prospects is faster. The audio-visual archives integrated through the years represent priceless collateral material that can support sales. In addition, we have the power of multimedia to the performance of polymedia, on different kinds of supports, regardless of the time. Isn’t It Time For WHOLISTIC Medicine?

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

By D.S. Braun I posted a story the other day on one of my blogs - the headline reads: “Antidepressant drugs quadruple risk of suicides, research shows”. Sigh I mean, c’mon. isn’t the whole reason we take anti-depressant drugs centered around NOT wanting to give up, check out, commit suicide, stop living, etc.? So, we take a drug that makes us more bummed? To the point of suicide? When are we going to stop running to a doctor every time we (or our children) have sniffle or pang to get that ‘magic pill’ that somehow ALWAYS manages to have a side effect worse than the original symptom?? Don’t tell me about the marvels of modern medicine, I know about an awful lot of them. And, in case you’re getting the wrong idea, I have immense respect for scientists and researchers who have devoted lifetimes to try and find ways to overcome modern man’s illnesses. I have immense respect for most medical doctors and practitioners who have devoted their lives to trying to help and heal their fellow man. However, the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the ‘big business’ of medicine - they can go away any day now. When the almighty dollar supercedes the importance of life, it’s time to do something. Also, why in the heck can’t we learn to stop throwing the baby out with the bathwater??? With the advent of ’science’, all of a sudden everything our ancestors did and believed in the realm of healing was all of a sudden labeled ’superstition’ and ineffective ‘folk medicine.’ Isn’t it funny that now we’re realizing how right much of that folk medicine was. Mistletoe is being researched for its effect on Cancer - with astounding results. St John’s Wort is now known to be a very effective anti-depressant (without making you want to kill yourself!), light - that’s right, light - is being used to treat ulcers, infections, carpal tunnel syndrome, and a host of other ailments - successfully. Therapeutic touch is being used in hospitals for surgery and heart patients, successfully. The power of prayer - dubbed ineffective by the so-called scientific experts for decades upon decades - has now been proven to have a measurable positive effect on the ill. So, is the pendulum finally swinging back to center? I sure as heck hope so. But, more than that, I hope it doesn’t completely swing in the opposite direction. If I feel my children need medical attention, I do NOT HESITATE to get it for them. But, if I can keep my children healthy in the first place with natural therapies, herbs, vitamins, good nutrition and treat them at home in the same manner successfully, I do that. We need that ever-elusive balance. Science, allopathic and ‘alternative’ medicine working TOGETHER for the good of the people. In my humble opinion, THAT is what ‘holistic’ should mean. Everything working together as a whole to help the whole of the person. The new buzz term for this is ‘Integrative Medicine’. But, no matter what you call it, it makes sense. Use everything at your disposal to heal - and first, do no harm. (I wish the pharmaceutical companies and many doctors would follow that!) Reviewing the New Berkley Vanish Transition Fluorocarbon Line

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

By Suzanne Hodnett The visibility of the line was good. As we were using 2 green lines, a yellow line plus a blue line on this day, it was easy to pick out. I am sure it would be just as easy to pick out among any other line as it picked up the light very easily and reflected a golden colour very useful in a tangle. Casting was no different than any other line we were using once the line had been cast once or twice to bed it down on the reel.We never had any problem with memory as there seemed to be very little compared to Berkley Trilene or Diawa Tournament which we were also using at the time. Memory is a major headache if you are using a fixed spool; we were testing this on 7500 multipliers but it performed so well I would use it on a fixed spool. The only problem we found was the elasticity. Although soft to the touch and nice to feel, it was very difficult to break out the lead if you wanted to change bait. We were not sure if this was good or bad as at least we found that our bait stayed anchored to the bottom. Proved by the fact we caught several fish on the two rods used in the competition with BVT. We did not get any rod thumping bites but bites were easy to detect using both fixed and running end rigs. Although the stretch level was a bit of a pain when trying to break out the lead it was a safety factor when a nice fish was close to the boat. The 12lb line we only used as hook lengths but compared to Berkley Vanish it was much nicer to use as it felt much softer and easier to untangle and less prone to twist and kink. We also used 17lb as hook lengths as well and this was again better than normal Vanish as it was more user friendly, using our version of knot we had no problems. We did not take any more particular care with the 17lb BVT than the other lines used on the day and gave the line a good test probably more abuse than normal due to the terrible conditions we fished in. The view was that we would definitely use BVT in place of BV as hook trace but the price would be a major factor in using BVT as a main line. Simple Marketing Strategies Versus an SEO Line of Attack!

Monday, September 10th, 2007

By Charlene Rashkow Each and every day those of us on the Internet are bombarded with information about Search Engine Optimization and all that goes along with it. For the majority of folks who are promoting a business online, this can often lead to confusion especially when it comes to understanding key words, meta tags and title tags. But the real issue is not necessarily in how many people are finding your site, but in how many visitors develop into clients or customers. Attracting The Right Clients! The idea of making it on the web means attracting the right clients, those that want what you have to offer. When you give it some thought, wouldnt you conclude that how you market yourself is really what the Internet game is all about? Obviously, even if one does manage to reach the top of a search engine there are no guarantees that youll stay there and more than likely all too soon youll quickly be replaced. Basically, it’s not so much about the traffic that’s drawn to a site but whether the product or service is wanted. This is where simple marketing strategies come in. What Are You Attracting to Your Site? Suppose you receive a number of hits to your site on a daily basis, yet none of the people who visit become paying customers. Of what benefit is it to you if people visit but dont buy? Attracting a quality customer, someone who appreciates your products and services, is what being on the web is really all about. The number of hits to a site is of course important to some degree, but what is more important is magnetizing the type of person who appreciates and buys your products or services. What Can Guarantee Your Online Success? The only thing that can guarantee your online success is effective, yet simple marketing strategies. And while a number of online ventures have little knowledge in regard to marketing, whether you are a small Mom and Pop business or a mid-sized corporation, you have to take advantage of the many marketing strategies that are not costly. The key to marketing success is having the willingness to explore various methods until you find the one that works. But remember, almost invariably what works wonderfully today may not work tomorrow so you have to be open to exploring new means of marketing regularly. Simple Marketing Strategies! The following simple marketing strategies may be a perfect jumping off place for getting things flowing in the right direction. 1.Provide such a great service that everyone wants what you have to offer. If you furnish a product or service that fills a need and you do it with professionalism and style, the world will beat a path to your door regardless of your search engine placement. 2. Give something to get something. Find a way that helps others reach higher levels of success by being willing to support your fellow and sister entrepreneurs. One way is to write articles. Articles bring new clients and they also give you credibility. Become so experienced in your field of endeavor that others reach out to you for help. 3. Network regularly. Staying in touch with people youve worked with in the past clearly demonstrates your interest and your professionalism. Supportive relationships are the best part of maintaining healthy Internet communication. 4. Use the media. If you can’t afford to use a large distribution service to send out a press release, use the free distribution services found all over the Internet, plus you should always submit a press release to your local paper and cable channels. Even if you are never invited for an interview by way of a newspaper, a press release gives incomparable exposure compared to others forms of advertising. 5. Be bold and a bit daring. Getting noticed means having to step out of your comfort zone. That may be a bit frightening at first especially if you’re not used to promoting yourself, but remember if you keep on doing the same old things, nothing will change. 6. Pay attention to what grabs your attention. Notice what is appealing to you about a specific ad, web site or article. Why did it attract you? That may give you important clues that will help develop your own strategies. When it comes to marketing, the bottom line is that no one method can guarantee your success forever, which means you may have to try a few different strategies to find the one that works best. It may take several tries before finding the perfect marketing tool for your business, but keep on trying. Your efforts will be worth it in the long run. A Jack Of All Trades Is Often The Master of None

Friday, September 7th, 2007

By Dan Kennedy Youve heard variations of that saying your entire life. Consider: a marketer to all markets . . . is often a master of none. Personally, I take this risk: as a marketing consultant, I move from one market to the next frequently, and I am often involved in “mass-marketing” - such as with infomercials selling weight loss or cosmetics. But I definitely prefer niche markets. I specialize, by preference, in only three or four target markets. I target my own businesses. And I would suggest to you that the key to risk reduction; to safety in marketing; to the shortest, most probable path to a win - - - “you can never be specific enough.” I have taught this as “Message-To-Market Match” for over ten years. It is absolutely, inarguably proven valid. And, as an almost inviolate rule, the tighter, the more precise, the more perfect the match is, the better the results. A Horse Is A Horse, Of Course, Of Course - But . . . Consider the person who has a new nutritional formula for horses. It improves the overall health, vitality and stamina of the horse. It can be sold to owners of show horses, thoroughbred racehorses, standard-bred (harness) racehorses, quarter horses, rodeo horses, and so on. But lets recognize, for example, that people involved with thoroughbreds dislike, distrust and disavow kinship with those involved with standard-breds. It would be a big error to use the same message for both. Try crossing over one testimonial and youd lose a whole market. Now, lets take just the thoroughbred market. Trainers who specialize in bringing along youngsters will respond differently than the “journeymen” trainers who work mostly with already broken, older horses. Trainers who frequent the West Coast tracks do not like the East Coast guys and vice versa. And, in each case, the more perfectly I matched my message, my talk, my testimonials, etc. to the specific sub-sub-sub-section of the market, the better the results I would get. This sort of thing exists everywhere. I used to market a lot to chiropractors. In fact, I built the largest integrated seminar and publishing company exclusively serving chiropractors and dentists in North America, in only three years. There are about 35,000 chiropractors; we did some business with over 10,000 of them — thats 30% market penetration. But did you know . . . there are “straight” chiropractors, holistic chiropractors, chiropractors who specialize in work injuries, chiropractors who only use the Activator method. . . that there are individual constituencies within chiropractic tied to different practice management gurus. . . a small number who practice cooperatively with medical doctors, but most are at war with medical doctors . . . ? Well, if you dont know all that, you cant message-to-market match. And you may go off so half-cocked you get clobbered. This is why you or your expert-partner must really know your target market inside out and upside down. And you should still do a ton of homework. It still amazes me how many people are eager to spend money but too damned lazy to spend a week at the library. I routinely beat most graphically jazzed up, colorful, slick brochures with a long-form sales letter. Give me typewriter and Ill give you a sales letter thatll outperform one that was typeset at much greater cost. Simple is better. So the bottom-line is: Keep it simple and market to as highly- targeted a market as you possible can. You-and your pocketbook- will be glad you did. Secured Loans : Why They Are The Winning Product

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Fabio_Marcell]Fabio Marcell As financial products go, secured loans have stood the test of time. Whilst many other alternatives have entered the market over the past couple of decades, this type of loan has remained the most popular financial product for homeowners. One of the biggest competitors vying for the attention of the public is the unsecured loan. Unsecured loan providers have tried to cash in on consumers insecurities by pressing home the fact that a secured loan is tied to property. They try to scare people away from taking out a secured loan. But the secured loan has managed to fend off this competition in the ever more cutthroat financial sector. These loans continue to be the product which is taken up by more people than any other, except of course for a mortgage loan which is essentially the same as a secured loan, but is usually spread out over a longer period of time. The reason secured loans have remained this popular is because they offer a much wider array of benefits than, for example, an unsecured loan. The biggest benefit for the consumer when taking out a secured loan is that more often than not the interest rate will be substantially lower than most other products in the personal finance area. The most obvious exception is the mortgage. If you shop around you can often find a secured loan with an interest rate as low as 7 or 8 percent. However at the time of writing this article you will be lucky to find a secured loan in the UK market below 11 percent. Even so, nearly every other financial product you’ll find out there will charge a substantially larger rate of interest. There’s often a discrepancy between the rates of interest advertised by lenders and the actual rate which you’ll pay. Lenders always have to advertise their standard rates. But you will find that, depending on your situation, you may well be able to obtain a lower rate. Conversely if your situation is not so favourable you may end up paying more. To obtain lower rates than advertised you may need to be able to prove substantial levels of collateral. If you have an excellent credit rating you may also get a lower rate. Another reason for interest rate changes which may not be obvious is the fact that if you wait too long to make your decision regarding your provider, then the market conditions may have altered since you initially began your research. The lender will never guarantee an interest rate until you have signed on the dotted line. Furthermore, you will find that with a secured loan you will be able to borrow substantially larger amounts than if you were applying for an unsecured loan. Since with an unsecured loan the lender is taking more risk they are less likely to offer you larger amounts of money. They take risk management very seriously and have turned it into a science. The reason you are able to borrow much more when taking out a secured loan is because the amount is secured on your property, hence the name. Should you get into difficulty meeting your repayments then the lender knows they can repossess your home if you continue to default. Since with a secured loan the borrower is taking much more risk then the lender is more prepared to provide a larger amount. Again this is all determined by their risk assessment of your specific situation. Possibly one of the major reasons that secured loans have become so popular is the fact that they are readily available, assuming you can prove your circumstance. The majority of comparable financial products are nowhere near as accessible as a secured loan. This is because you have to work much harder to prove your situation when taking out alternative products. With a secured loan all you have to do is put your property forward as security. Because of this most lenders will have no problem in approving your secured loan assuming you are not up to your eyes in debt already. Another major benefit with secured loans is the fact that they can be used for a wide range of applications. You will usually find the lender places no restrictions on what you want to use the loan for. Common examples would be renovation work on your home, taking a holiday or buying a new car. But the options don’t stop there. Pretty much anything you want to do with the money is acceptable. You also have more choice when deciding the manner in which you want to repay your loan. These options change regularly and you’ll need to talk to your lender about the various avenues open to you. Make sure you ask them about paying your loan off early and whether there are any redemption charges. So bearing in mind the facts outlined in this article you should have more of an idea of what to expect when you apply for, or are shopping around for your secured loan. It is virtually impossible to get on in this life without borrowing some money, unless you’re very lucky - a secured loan is one of the best ways you can do this. God’s Creation Of Man Verses Darwin’s Evolutionary Theory

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

By Steven Coffman In Christianity and Judaism, “God’s creation of Man,” from the “The Book of Genesis” verses the science view on evolution that is now taught in our public schools has no real argument between them, because neither side portrays or explains every detail of evolution. The overall parallels in each are similar when you look at them both to someone that has studied both of them in depth. In the Christian Bible and the Jewish Torah it states in The Book of Genesis, that God created the heavens and earth, but it does not go into great detail of how this happened, and that this statement is truly portrayed as a metaphor, which most scholars will agree that it is. It only gives the general storyline, but does not offer the exact details as to how all of this came about. The Book of Genesis states that “In the first seven days,” (God days, not ours), “God created the heavens and the earth.” Science teaches The Big Bang Theory, but does not explain what initiated it, or set it into motion. The scientific view doesn’t credit that God or a higher power was the controlling or governing factor in these events. The parallels are the same, just stated differently. Websters Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines the word Chaos as a state of things in which chance is supreme; esp.: the confused unorganized state of primordial matter before the creation of distinct forms. The science teachings of the first evolutionary creations of life on earth states, In the beginning, the first simple celled creatures on the earth were first formed from the geographical coincidence of a particular group of chemical and elemental materials that where in close proximity of each other, and happened to also receive an electrical charge to them, theoretically via a lightning strike or another chemical mixture that was also in close proximity of the chemical and elemental materials that created an electrical charge, and that is what put into motion the first basic life on earth. These odds of occurrence are mathematically astronomical, but science does not state that, nor states that it takes into account The Chaos Theory between math and real life situations. The Book of Genesis states God made Man from the dust of the earth, but does not explain or go into detail how this came about either. In The Book of Genesis, it states that “God made the plants, then the creatures of the earth first, before He made man. Science states that with the on-going evolution, higher life forms evolved, through the tenacity of each life form struggling to adapt and survive in its current environment. Some survived and continued to evolve, and others perished in this struggle. The parallels between these two views are the same, just stated differently, and the scientific view doesn’t credit that God or a higher power was the controlling or governing factor in these events, nor does The Book of Genesis state specifically how these events came about as well, it just says that “God made the plants, then the creatures of the earth first, before He made man. If one studies evolutionary science, you learn that all living things go through a metamorphosis in their evolution on earth, and through metamorphosis there are branches of each species that takes a different path and coarse, and develops at a different rate and design, always attempting to adapt to its environment, in the struggle of survival of that species particular branch. Some do not develop with enough adaptivity to its environment to survive, and others fall prey to cataclysmic changes to the environment and hence become extinct, which ends that species or particular branch of species. The true difference between Apes and Mans chromosomes genetically is very slight, and simply is a mathematical argument that is hard to argue against. The evolutionary physical difference between these branches of this species is that at the point of birth. Science teaches that Man’s skull is still soft, and it is not fully closed on the top at birth, and then grows together in the following next six months and finally hardens. This process allows for the brain of Man to continue growing past the 9 month gestation period of being in the womb. The Ape’s skull cap, on the other hand has already hardened at birth, which doesn’t allow this continual brain growth that Man has; this still doesn’t mean that Man didn’t evolve from the Ape. It just states that in Mans evolutionary mutation from their Ape ancestors, Man adapted to the environment in a slightly different way. In The Book of Genesis it states that God created Man, it just does not give the blow by blow details of how this came about. Some Christians tend to believe that God waved his hand, or just had the thought and poof, Man appeared! The non-religious tend to believe that life developed through conquering the astronomical mathematical odds, and ignoring The Chaos Theory between math and real life situations. That is where the argument starts. Christians, Jews and the non-religious or Darwinists should have no true argument between them in this matter through understanding the Bible, science, and The Chaos Theory between math and real life situations. Anniversary Gifts - Seventieth Anniversary

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

By Michael Russell It’s your seventieth wedding anniversary, or sometimes referred to as your platinum wedding anniversary. Even with today’s increased life expectancies, not everyone even makes it to 70 years of age, let alone end up married for 70 years. This is truly a special day and one to be cherished for so many reasons. Finding an anniversary gift should be considered a trivial matter in relation to what you’ve accomplished by staying married for so many years. The traditional and modern gift ideas are both platinum. If you don’t exactly know what platinum is, we’ll make this very simple. It’s VERY expensive. Maybe by this time money is no object. Maybe you’ve been saving up for most of those 70 years and even the thought of buying a small country is like walking down to the corner store for a gallon of milk. Let’s hope so, because this year’s anniversary gift is going to make that small country look like the local lemonade stand. Perhaps this is why many of today’s modern couples go the modern alternative route when picking up a gift for this special occasion. One of the more common things that people do when picking out a gift for a seventieth wedding anniversary is to take a trip to Africa. Why? Because Africa is the home to some of the largest platinum reserves. Okay, so maybe it’s not the same thing as actually getting your spouse a big chunk of metal but it’s still a nice gift. Africa has a number of places of interest that will more than make for a memorable vacation and anniversary gift. Yes, you may need a little help getting around at this stage of your life, but that can easily be arranged. If, however, a trip to Africa is not exactly your idea of a good time, there are other alternative anniversary gifts that you could consider. One such alternate gift that people seem to go for, though it’s hard to say why, is the aalto petrol vase. These are some of the most unusual vases you will ever see. They come in a variety of sizes but the shape of them are unmistakable. They have a very modern and trendy design. The price range of these vases is from $55 to $125. Another alternate route that many people choose is to find things that were around from 70 years ago. As of this article publication, that would be 1936. Finding anything from 1936 is not an easy task. You’ll have to go to antique shops, comic collectible shops, coin collecting shops and other rare collectible stores. Should you find something from that era, expect the price tag to be rather steep. Comic books from that era, especially if they are in mint condition, can be hundreds if not thousands of dollars. What’s important to remember, regardless of what gift you choose, is that this is a very special day. It’s one that not many people get to celebrate. The most important thing is that you’re spending it together. The gift, whatever it is, is secondary to the years you’ve shared together.
