Find Your Soulmate

June 22nd, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Robert Johanssen Soulmate. Once upon a time we wondered if we were ever going to meet our own. We ask if the one we are with right now is the one truly meant for us. There are just too many stories about people finding the one, their match, their twin soul, that at times it almost feels too magical to believe, yet we keep on believing. Love, indeed, moves in mysterious ways. If you want to know if its possible, it is. You can find your soulmate. Soulmates are believed to be our love match, the other twin of our soul. If you have episodes of yearning and longing, thats because you havent met yet the special someone who can fill up your loneliness. If you got fears, he definitely has ways to subside them. He can put an end to your uncertainty; he spells happiness. Soulmates rather complement us than complete us. The first sign in discerning if HE is the one is when your heart and mind tell you that HE is so. You will know it even if you dont know how. Thats the joy that soulmates bring to everyone. Knowing each of us has a matched soul is a beautiful thing to think of. The universe is so huge that the journey in finding our soulmates seems like a blanket of overwhelming adventure. The thought seems mysterious but tugs inspiringly at the heartstrings. It makes us want to wake up each day with that burning desire that we might just stumble to them. The scenario can get really delightful, what with a not so perfect world that we have, finding your soulmate in the most strange times is perhaps the most beautiful thing that can happen to any individual. So, the question is, how do you find your soulmate when you have no place to start and you have no hint at whom to look for? Simple, it only takes affirmation and awareness, and at the right time you will be able to recognize the one. AFFIRMATION Believe that you will meet him. While it is true that you dont have to go on searching literally for your soulmate, it takes a positive affirmation to help you attract the energies of the universe that may lead you to him. As with the Christian principle: Ask and you shall receive. Maintain a conscious effort of believing and anticipating that one day soon you will meet. It can be an everyday exercise you can practice that can fuel you to live your life with passion for love. AWARENESS It would help a great deal if you can keep your eyes and heart open for possible encounters with a soulmate. Know in your heart that you wish to meet him and imagine in your mind what a dream it would be when that happens. Anyone can pass for a soulmate so try not to discriminate people in advance. Good for you if you have the gift of discernment, but who are the chosen few who have this talent? The strategy is to be in control. Cling on to that aspiration that your soulmate is not too far away. Be aware of signs that surround you because who knows, he could also be looking for you. What is Your Secret Sabotage Behavior?

June 19th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Diana Chaloux Alright its confession time! How many of you have a secret sabotage behavior that is holding you back from reaching your fitness goals? If I had to take a guess, I would say there are a lot of hands going up right now. I say secret because a lot of times we dont do these things when other people are watching. Perhaps that is because we know these behaviors are detrimental to our fitness success but dont want to admit it. Well I think its high time to get these confessions out in the open so we can stop the sabotage! Here are a few of the classic cases of eating habits which can hold you back from achieving your weight loss goals. Sabotage 1: The Mindless Snacker. These people typically snack continually throughout the day. A little taste here, a treat there, a bit of this and a nibble of that can add up to a LOT of extra calories at the end of the day. But since you didnt eat them seated at the table as a meal maybe you didnt count those calories into your daily total. The Mindless Snacker may not even realize that they are eating all throughout the day! One of the best tools for making a Mindless Snacker more accountable is an eating journal, if you struggle with this snacking behavior write down everything that you eat throughout the day. When you can see it down on paper its not such a secret anymore! Sabotage 2: The Evening Eater. Now this one I know many of you can relate to! Maybe you are one of millions who succumb to boredom eating in the evenings. Its very possible that you make healthy choices all day long, but when you are lounging on the couch unwinding in the evenings the urge to start munching gets the best of you. You may be consuming more calories during these late evening binges than you do all day! The Evening Eater usually isnt hungry there is just the urge to have.something while relaxing at the end of the day. You may not only be consuming excessive calories, but since your metabolism slows down towards the end of the day you wont be able to use all of those calories for energy. So, you guessed it, they will be stored as fat. My tips for the Evening Eater are to eat plenty of veggies at your evening meal so that you will feel full. As soon as you finish your last meal of the day, brush your teeth or pop in a piece of sugar free gum so that you will be less tempted to eat again. If you feel that you must have something, drink some tea or flavored water, drinking low calorie or no calorie drinks such as these will help to fill you up and decrease your urge to eat more! Sabotage 3: The Starve and Stuff. These people typically dont eat breakfast. They dont eat much of anything for as long as they possibly can. But then it happens, around early afternoon they are so hungry that they cant stand it any longer! At this point their chance of making a healthy food choice is pretty much out the window! Weve all been there before, those times when youre so hungry you can hardly even think, so you just fill yourself with whatever you can find. Usually this leads to overeating since it takes 15-20 minutes for your body to let you know its full, and this little binge could result in hundreds, even thousands of calories in a very short period of time. If you eat this way, you will be on an energy roller coaster, your resting metabolism rate will decrease, your body will probably think you are starving and when you eat mass amounts of calories it will hold onto them as fat! The best thing to do to avoid sabotaging yourself in this way is to eat consistently throughout the day, starting with breakfast! It is so important to eat this first meal in order to fire up your metabolism. Eat small snacks or meals every 2-3 hours throughout the day. When you do this you wont ever feel like you are starving and you will be less likely to stuff yourself! If you are struggling with a secret sabotage behavior the first thing to do is recognize it! No matter how much you are exercising, if you are sabotaging your nutrition with these unhealthy eating habits you will never see the results that you desire. So take charge of those secret behaviors today and stop holding yourself back from fitness success! Diana Chaloux is the co-founder and owner of Destined 2 Be Fit (http://www.destined2befit.com). Super Soap Guide - Not All Soaps Are The Same

June 15th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By John Morris The demand for handmade soap is increasing at a fast rate. Consumers of today are well aware of the hazardous chemicals used in commercial soaps, that they are now seeking for a better and safer alternative. Created by the chemical reaction between certain oils, water and lye, the soap is the oldest agent used for keeping the body clean. Oils and fats used for soap are combinations of glycerin compounds and fatty acids. Glycerin and the sodium salt of fatty acids are formed when oils and alkali are mixed. Soap making requires fatty acids and are supplied by grease, tallow, fish and vegetable oils. The lathering quality of the soap, including its hardness and transparency varies in accordance to the fat and alkali combinations that are used as ingredients. The best soap uses a combination of many oils. 1. Functionality From Ingredients Almost all soaps eliminate grease and dirt because a few of their components surface active ingredients, or surfactants, having a molecular structure acting as a connection between the dirt particles and water. The particles from the underlying surfaces are loosened. One end of the molecule is hydrophilic; meaning attracted to water and the other end is hydrophobic, meaning attracted to substances which are not water soluble. This structure permits the soap to stick to substances that are then, not water soluble. Dirt is then washed away. A handmade soap has glycerin, while the commercial soap does not. It is a clear liquid that can absorb water from the air, making it an important factor in keeping the skin healthy. Glycerin soap is especially suitable for sensitive skin, due to its high quality by-product. 2. Specific Ingredients: Almond Oil - Works as an emollient, calming the body and the senses Avocado Oil - Works as an emollient Birch Sap Extract - An effective astringent, refresher, soother and healer of the skin Corn Starch - Absorbs excess oil & excess moisture in the skin Lecithin egg yolk - Humectant and emulsifier Comfrey Extract - Sooths, heals, and has an anti-bacterial effect on the skin Citric Acid Citrus - Adjust the pH level Apple Cider Vinegar - Has high cleansing properties and balances the skins PH level Cocoa Butter - Forms a moisture barrier on the skin Corn Flower Extract - Conditions and acts as a skin soother Lavender Essential Oil - Has aromatic effects that stimulates fast metabolism Pine Essential - Warms the muscles, has aromatic properties that stimulates the senses Rosemary Extract - Works as an astringent and hair conditioner Sea Kelp Extract - Restores the kin’s health & vitality and is an effective hair conditioner Wheat Germ Oil - An emollient Peppermint Essential Oil - Has aromatic and antiseptic effects & is stimulating. Birch Leaf Extract - Is an anti-irritant, having analgesic properties Aloe Vera Gel - Soothes and protects skin Apricot Kernel Oil - Emollient Eucalyptus Oil - Has great cooling and uplifting effects 3. Why Handmade Soap? - A handmade soap uses only food grade oils, such as shea and conola which functions as emollients, olive and natural cocoa oil that makes rich lathers, sunflower that contributes to a creamy bar. - Handmade soaps uses 5 percent natural ingredients, helping the skin feel soft after a bath. - True soap just got to have lye, therefore a handmade soap has lye; once saponification process is completed, the lye and oil molecules chemically have combined and converted into soap, therefore, no lye is present in a finished soap product. - Handmade soaps produces naturally occurring glycerin which is a natural humectant that draws moisture unto the skin. Most commercial soaps have the glycerin removed, containing detergents instead. - Handmade soaps are naturally anti bacterial in composition, having a ph level of 7-8. The higher the ph level, the effective it is against bacteria, due to the fact that bacteria thrive with ph level of - Handmade soaps uses only essential oils that soothes and eases body tension. 4. Buy Better Soap: - Consider buying natural or handmade soaps. - Keep away from granular soaps. They are too abrasive for the skin. - Glycerin is key. It pulls moisture from the out side environment, bringing it in to the skin. Low grade and commercially produced soap remove glycerin and replaces it with cost effective chemicals that can damage the skin. A handmade soap is of better quality, though much more expensive. - PH balance. Skin is acidic naturally, with a ph of 4.2 - 5.6. Commercial soaps have a ph of 9.5 - 11 which is too high can remove the skins natural acid protection, leaving skin dry. - Pure aloe vera - handmade soaps having pure aloe vera content is the best. Aloe vera retains the skins natural moisture as well as soothes dry skin, keeping skin soft and healthy. By Dion Semeniuk To enjoy the benefits of silky smooth skin, you do not have tolive on the West Coast. For example, Maryland laser hairremoval clinics and spas abound. If you live on the Easternside of the country but find unwanted hair causing youembarrassment, inconvenience, or even personal problems such assweating and body odor, then laser removal could be the idealsolution, giving you back your life and freedom. For people without excessive hair, this might not sound like abig deal but you would be amazed at how many millions of peoplestruggle daily, all because of hair. While treatments areproven safe, it is still important to be aware of safetyprecautions and always schedule consultation time with three orfour doctors before choosing just one. Before you get unwantedhair removed, you need to know that tanned or dark skin does notrespond. Now, we are seeing a few technological advances butyou want to make sure the clinic has the appropriate equipmentand training. Even so, achieving silky skin may not be reached. On the other hand, if you have light skin and/or light hair, chances are the results will be incredible. When you visit theMaryland laser hair removal clinic or spa of your choice, theprofessional staff will guide you through the process. You willlearn about the type of equipment used, the way in which thelaser energy works, what to expect after the procedure iscomplete, and so on. To help the process be even moresuccessful, it is imperative two weeks prior to this procedure, any waxing, plucking, or other hair removal methods other thanshaving being stopped. Typically, the majority of people go through laser hair removalwithout any complications. However, if you are takingmedication for skin allergy, if you have open sores caused byacne, herpes, or cold sores, or have sensitive skin, it may berecommended you wait or avoid the procedure altogether. Again,by working with a professional Maryland laser hair removalcenter, you will know exactly everything to have a new look andfeel. The great thing about using laser to get rid of unwanted hair isthe possibilities. This particular treatment can be used forthe upper lip, the back, chest, legs, bikini line, back of theneck, and so on. Probably the greatest decision after choosingsomeone qualified is price. Unfortunately, this procedure isnot cheap. Even when you find discounts, expect to pay severalhundred dollars. Additionally, to have the smoothest skin andbest results, it usually requires three or more procedures. Remember, while the services of a Maryland laser hair removalclinic may be an excellent solution for unwanted hair, they arenot for everyone. With a consultation, all your questions willbe answered. The Key To Successful Promotion

June 1st, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Jaci Rae How to Promote Your promoting your CD to radio takes a lot of organization and time management skills. Let me help organize your process. First you need to find radio stations that are willing to accept submissions from independent artists (Contact names, addresses, phone and email for radio stations across the globe are listed in Chapter 35 in my book The Indie Guide To Music, Marketing and Money ISBN 978-0-9746229-4-1). You have to decide whether you are going to local and regional stations (which are a good recommendation if you dont have a lot of money to work with and you arent worried about charting.), or if you are going after national stations, which is only a good idea if you are already established locally and are seeking national exposure and a chance to chart. As with all submissions, always get permission ahead of time before you submit your music. There are two easy ways to find radio station information. The first is to log onto the internet and search the radio station databases available. This method is free, but will take some time. The best resources I have found are MIT Radio Stations on the Web (http://wmbr.mit.edu/stations/list.html) and BRS Radio Stations (http://www.radio-directory.com.) Most sites list the stations by genre (style of music), state, etc. You should bookmark these sites in your Internet browser. You will find yourself going back to these sites often. The major advantage the internet offers is the ability to download information into a spreadsheet or word processing document to make labels and save data for your follow-up files. However, if you decide looking for information on the internet takes too much time, an alternative is to purchase books that already have all the information for radio stations listed in them. When finding radio stations to submit to, its best to start with college radio first, especially if you are a new act without a track record. It will be easier for you to get added on college stations, which are usually free format and are more likely to air something new and exciting. If you decide on the college route, make sure you have verified they have a format for your music. Most college stations have a variety of music styles and Music Directors. Rock, Jazz, and Alternative Music tend to be the main stay for college stations. Country acts will have a more difficult time on college stations and there are many that have Folk Music programs. For Country acts youll have a better opportunity at stations that play Country Music specifically and/or those that play Americana. Once you conquer the college charts, you will have a solid base and track record to promote yourself to the larger stations. Its like a snowball that rolls down the mountain. The more it rolls, the larger it gets. Make sure when approaching larger stations that you ask specifically if they play independent artists. If they tell you they occasionally give an independent artist an opportunity, and you have the extra resources, go ahead and submit your CD to them. You never know, they may play it. But if you hear: No. We only play major-label releases, or artists that are in the top 50 of the Billboard charts, but why dont you go ahead and send it along anyway. Think long and hard about it before sending your CD. Youre better off to be patient, record the comment on your spreadsheet and wait until you chart before contacting that station again. If the goal for your music is charting you will need to make sure that all of the radio stations you submit to, report to the same charts. This will help ensure that all of your spins count. (Spins are the amount of times a song is played.) If the radio stations dont report to any charts, or the charts they do report to are not consistent with those you already have, you may want to think about passing on them until you have more resources. It would be like sending an unsolicited press kit to a management firm that doesnt accept them. Its a waste of time, energy and press kits. If you are only looking for exposure, then by all means send it to every radio station you get permission from as long as your budget allows. However, try to stay in one local/regional area so its saturated with your music. It will give you a much better chance at lining up a distributor as well as selling more CDs. It is easier to get added to a play list on stations that dont report, than do. The competition is not as fierce. Remember: air time is an important commodity to a radio station. Each station only has so many hours and slots they can play songs. If you can get your song charted, you will have a better chance of getting into one of those precious slots. You have to decide which route you want to take. Once you have found the radio stations you plan to submit to, and you have entered that information into a database, you are ready to send the press kit out (assuming your CD is ready). At this time, make sure to call the radio stations again and verify that all the information youve gathered is still the same. The industry is very volatile. Stations get bought and sold very quickly, and there is an extremely high turnover rate for personnel. You dont want to send your Heavy Metal CD to a station that is now a Smooth Jazz station. And you dont want to send something out with the words Material Requested on it, to someone who no longer works there. Youll need a cover letter for your press kit, make sure to suggest the tracks you think radio personnel will like, and the ones you think are more commercial. Give them an opportunity to listen to several tracks, but dont ask them to listen to the entire CD. Its not professional. Radio promoters push one track at a time. Pushing only one track will show them you know what you are doing and are respectful of their time. To push a track means to tell the radio personnel which track you are suggesting at this time for airplay. Tell them its the first release off your new CD. In order to chart you must have a substantial amount of spins. Heres another major reason to push only one spin: If you have a lot of tracks that are being played, but no stations are playing similar tracks, your chances of charting for a particular song are very slim. While you really dont have a choice of what is played, you can help it along by constantly suggesting the same track. Most Program Directors (PDs) and Music Directors (MDs) have specific call times, on specific days, every week. You can only call them on these days or they will not take your calls. Once you have sent your press kit out, wait approximately two weeks, then call and confirm that your CD has arrived safely. If the CD has not arrived, wait one more week and call again. If at that point the CD has still not arrived, tell the PD or MD that you will send another package and then send it. Wait another week and then follow up again. The life of one song is anywhere from 4 - 6 weeks. You cant just assume that at the end of 6 weeks the radio station is going to automatically play another track from your CD. Its up to you to suggest it. At the end of your first 4 weeks of air time, continue to push the first track but also start suggesting the next track you plan to release. Start building a rapport with the PDs and MDs. Find out their likes, dislikes, and interests. You will get much farther if you are truly interested in who they are and what they do, than if you are only interested in what they can do for you. Because Program and Music Directors have different call times and days, time management is essential. To help make your job a little easier, create a database to hold all your contact information and keep track of calls and call times. If you have succeeded in getting a station to add your music, here are some questions you should ask: If they are playing your CD, ask them how your CD is doing at their station. Ask them if they are playing the track you specified in your promotional package, and if they have had any listener response. Ask if there is anything additional that you can do to assist them. More often than not, you will only be able to leave a message when you call. If you are able to contact them directly, always ask them if it is a convenient time for them to talk to you. If it is, keep your conversations short, as they are extremely busy people. If it is not a good time for them to talk, ask them when you can call them back and then do. Keep them informed of any newsworthy items. Every time you succeed in getting another station to add your music, go a little further on the chart, or score a major gig, send out a press release by faxes or emails, and definitely hype it on the phone during your conversations with them. Build excitement so you keep yourself in the forefront of their minds. Keep them interested in your music. Offer to do interviews and liners. Liners are a small commercial you record for the station. For example: Hi! This is Joe Smoegh and you are listening to todays hottest mix on such and such a radio station. I will say it again, be persistent and pleasant. If you have not been added, or you are not receiving airplay yet, continue promoting yourself to these stations via email, fax, or doing your follow up phone calls. Ask them if they do test spins. If they do, ask them if they would try your CD during one of their next test spin slots. Additionally, stop by radio stations in your area and make live appearances. Bring something special, perhaps pizza or donuts and soda. You will bring a smile to their faces and create a personal association. Try to come up with unique ideas to sell your CD to them. Additionally, when you release your CD to radio will affect how much airplay you receive. If everything fails, try to remain upbeat and positive with them. Radio is very political. Remember there is only so much air time and only so many time slots available. Most will not pick Joe Smoegh over Britney Spears. After repeated efforts have failed and youre still not getting any air time, it may be time to call it quits on that particular station and stop contacting them with your weekly phone calls. You should still continue to keep them informed of your comings and goings via email. Cryptozoology And The Chupacabra

May 29th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Robert Benjamin The Chupacabra or Goat Sucker as it’s often called because of the large number of goats it killed, has been sighted by thousands of witnesses, in South America - Puerto Rico - Mexico - and the USA, from 1990 To Present. This creature has been reported as looking like a cross between one of the small aliens called the ‘greys’ and a porcupine. It has large red eyes that glow like fire or lights, gray skin, a long snake-like tongue, fangs, and long spinal quills or feathers that may act as wings. It is between 4 and 5 feet tall, hops like a kangaroo, but can also fly, and It stands upright on 3 toed feet. People who have encountered the Chupacabra up close have reported a very strong and foul smell like that of sulphur or rotted eggs. It often squeals and grunts like a wild pig or boar. It also makes loud hissing sounds, and can make a strange sound like laughing and crying at the same time. This creature has killed hundreds of animals since it’s first sighting, including cats, dogs, pigs, goats, chickens and more. The creature broke in through a window in a house in Caguas - Puerto Rico, and tore apart a childs stuffed teddy bear, it left, leaving a puddle of some slimy substance on the floor, and a piece of rotten meat on the window ledge. In one encounter the creature turned different shades of color as a terrified witness looked at it, then the creature made a strange hissing sound, as it started hissing, the witness started feeling disoriented and weak, then the creature departed rapidly. A police officer who encountered the creature also heard a hissing sound, and became so weak and disoriented he had to stop his pursuit of the creature, and stumble back to the patrol car. In an encounter that occurred in Arizona, the creature entered a house through an open door, then mumbled and gestured to the home owner, before fleeing. A couple hours later the man heard his son screaming, as he entered his son’s bedroom, the creature was standing on his son’s chest. The creature exited the bedroom through an open door and flew out a window. Some witnesses have reported that the creature can actually fly without wings, and with no visible means of guidance or propulsion, and it can vanish or materialize instantly. In the encounter where the creature left a slimy substance on the floor, this sounds a lot like ectoplasm, a gooey slime often reported in ghost encounters. And, in the report where the creature was discovered on the boys chest, this is the classic succubus and incubus attack position. The succubus is a demon that takes on the form of either a beautiful female or a hideous female looking creature called the ‘night hag’, and the incubus is a male form. The reports that the creature can vanish or materialize instantly clearly point to a supernatural or spiritual being, and the ability to fly, not soar, or glide, with no flapping motion, and lack of wings goes against the laws of physics and aerodynamics, which also points to something supernatural. There is a website that describes this and numerous other creatures of Cryptozoology in detail. Possible Pitfalls

May 26th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Caryl Ehrlich There are as many reasons youve given yourself to eat as there are minutes in a day. Storm clouds do it for me. They trigger a memory from when I lived in Florida and went deep-sea fishing in Key West. When a squall was imminent, wed pull our boat into a nearby atoll and wait out the storm while eating fresh fish sandwiches and drinking cold beer. Sandwiches are finger foods, which I now steer clear of, and I don’t drink beer anymore, but the smell of a rainstorm can be a powerful pitfall for me. I dont act on it, but the memory is a tantalizing trigger, nevertheless. A splash of red wine on white pants may not trigger an overeating episode nor will the car not starting, a flat tire, and your cell phone losing a signal at 4:58 p.m. when you must reach someone before 5:00 p.m. But these things have a cumulative effect, and all the mini-annoyances have the potential of becoming maxi-eating responses by the end of the day. You might stumble because you saw your favorite dessert on a restaurant menu. Or a celebration may convert a tentative no to an emphatic yes as soon as you hear a champagne cork pop from a bottle. I could resist anything but temptation, said Oscar Wilde. Consider the reasons youre tempted to eat. Highlight or circle the ones to which you respond. There are many and they are varied. Do you eat because youre hungry? Do you even know what hunger is? Or are you eating because youre lonely, tired, angry, or bored? Think of all the reasons you eat that have nothing to do with hunger. Perhaps you eat because youre up: its your birthday, my birthday, our anniversary, or Groundhogs Day; or because youre down: sad, or grieving. You might eat because its there, or someone else is eating so why not you? Is food easily available in your office, your home? Do you eat in your car? Are you eating because of good news? Bad news? No news? One man said he eats during the news. You might find yourself eating some foods because they came with a restaurant dinner or others because they came free with your airplane ticket or hotel room. Theres bread on the table in a restaurant, peanuts on the plane, chocolates on your pillow, and you think: Ill never pass this way again. To some, food is seen as a reward: Ive been so good all day. I didnt have breakfast. I didnt have lunch. Ill just have this side of beef for dinner. Of course, if youre feeling stuffed, bloated, and not so good about yourself, then overeating is not a reward. It is a punishment. When a young woman used the excuse that she overate prior to going to the ballet, I asked, did you dance? Unless she was dancing on that stage, she ate too much for dinner. She ate more than she was able to burn. For many, food has become a socially acceptable drug. It seems to numb the tensions and stresses of your life. Perhaps you use food to stuff down feelings and thoughts you dont want to feel or think or to escape. Do you eat when youre frustrated, disappointed, or angry? One fellow told me he knocked off a box of cookies and a pint of ice cream when the courts awarded his ex-wife a big divorce settlement. I wanted to know if she had returned the alimony check when she realized he was hurting himself. Although eating doesnt change the outcome of anything but your waistline and self-esteem, you might still be eating to cheer yourself up when youre down. Or not to feel so alone when youre without company. Or to socialize: you dont want to be left out. You might continue eating even though your clothes are too tight and youre huffing and puffing when you walk. That is part of addiction: you continue doing what you do even though there are negative consequences. Perhaps you eat because youre bored or have to fill unstructured time, such as evenings and weekends, or because you experience family, business, money, or peer-group pressure: (Come on. Were all going for pizza and we want you to come.) You dont want to be left out. You might use food to avoid intimacy or sex. Perhaps you use food to avoid nurturing or being nurtured. You are procrastinating: (Ill have lunch first and then work on that report.) You might eat during food preparation and put-away. Perhaps because once you start you cant stop. You might think, what the hell, I blew it anyway. Maybe food is used as a reward because you did something wonderful, or a punishment because you already overate and figure What the hell, it wont make a difference. When you smell the coffee in your office or the popcorn in a movie, or fresh donuts in a bakery, do you queue up? Do you use food as a meal extender? Youre having such a nice time and dont want the evening to end so you order another cup of coffee, a cocktail, a dessert. Youre entertaining guests. There is an abundance of extra food and all those leftovers. Going home to family is tricky for some. You may feel guilty that your family and friends have been cooking since last Thursday, and you have to taste (and comment on) everything that is offered. Does the cook get offended if you dont have seconds and thirds? We eat differently when we are in the company of two people, three people, four people, more people. A recent study said that people who eat with six or more other people consume a whopping 78% more than they would if they ate alone. The more people there are, the more food is offered. The longer food remains on the table, the longer youre tempted to eat. Are you too tired to cook so you pick pick pick and convince yourself you didnt eat anything? A point to remember: If its not water, its food. And this, too: If you swallowed it, you ate it. It all adds up. Whether you overeat because of genetics, ethnicity, religion, circumstance, or emotion doesnt matter. Perhaps you eat for some of these reasons or all of these reasons. Each person gets into the habit of using food inappropriately by eating for reasons you tell yourself its okay to eat, even if youre not hungry. Having followed these habits for such a long time sometimes decades theyve become involuntary conditioned responses. Just as Pavlovs dogs, when a stimulus appears, can a yes, thank you, be far behind? The intelligent you, thinks you shouldnt be doing what youre doing, but you cant stop. Thats the sneaky part of the addiction as if making up your mind will do the trick when it never has before. This might be the moment to make a list of the reasons you eat. Put down the breadstick and get a pencil. After seeing my list, a middle-aged woman said to me, According to your program, I havent been hungry since 1963. She was correct. She and you may have misidentified these situations, circumstances, and emotions as hunger for such a long time, youve lost your innate ability to identify this most basic of feelings. If youre trying to satisfy a physical hunger, your body doesnt require a great deal of food. If youre trying to fill an emotional hunger, you could back up a truck full of food to your home or office, and it would never, ever, contain enough food. Okay guys, put the Mallomars in the cabinet, the Hagen-Dazs in the freezer. The Twinkerdoodles go on the bed. If you become so overwhelmed, confused and paralyzed with not knowing what to do about this multi-faceted, many-layered topic of weight control that you cant stop eating once you start, chances are you do nothing. If hungry, you need to nourish the body. If, along the way, it also tastes good, looks good, and smells good, youve got a bonus. But you shouldnt be eating because it looks, smells, and tastes good. Almost everything fits that criteria. If youre thirsty, drink water. If youre responding to one of the above stimuli, change habits by creating new and constructive responses to replace your old and destructive ones. This is called repatterning. I might have missed one of your Possible Pitfalls, but you get the idea. Add yours if its not here. Observe how you eat when youre up or down, alone or with friends. We even eat differently with men, differently with women, and another way with children. These pitfalls might be because of emotions, circumstances, or just because its there or youre there, in the neighborhood where your favorite something is prepared as nowhere else in the world! Pitfalls can be any of these things or all of these things. None of the Pitfalls Ive described above are hunger. And if its not hunger, its not a reason to eat. What are your Possible Pitfalls? Choosing the Perfect Wedding Cake - Six Practical Questions To Ask Your Wedding Cake Designer

May 18th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Tuppy Glossop Amongst all the stressful decisions you have to make as you plan your wedding (can arch-conservative Cousin Bill sit at the same table with super-liberal Aunt Trisha?) choosing your wedding cake is one of the fun decisions. But even choosing a wedding cake involves some details, some of which may not be obvious. This checklist of questions will help you be sure you are well-prepared when you meet with your wedding cake designer. 1. How much is the cake going to cost? It’s worth getting this one out of the way first, since some of your options will depend on your budget. Wedding cakes are usually priced per portion, with costs ranging from $3 to $15 or more for celebrity designers. The higher priced cake designers are not charging solely based on their reputation … they are more likely to insist on top-quality ingredients, which obviously increase the cost. As is so often true, you are likely to pay more in major cities like New York and San Francisco. 2. Do you have suggestions for controlling the cost? One suggestion for keeping the cost down, particularly if you are planning on a large number of guests, is to order a smaller decorated cake for display and for photos, and to supplement that cake with a sheet cake of the same style. There are two additional advantages to this beyond the price. It reduces the delay in serving dessert after the cake cutting ceremony, since the catering staff can plate the sheet cake ahead of time; and for certain cakes it can make the presentation more attractive. Cheesecake, for instance, is notoriously difficult to serve in quantity, particularly under the pressure of time. 3. Do we need to pay a deposit? In a word: Yes. It is your only real guarantee that you will have a cake on your wedding day, and most wedding cake designers insist on it. Many of them have heard stories of colleagues delivering a cake to a reception, only to discover that the bride and groom changed their mind and chose another designer. 4. How long before the wedding do we need to order the cake? In most cases wedding cake designers book weddings between three and six months in advance. If your ceremony is planned for the busiest times of year you should definitely allow at least six months, or your chosen designer may not be available. 5. Will the designer be personally involved in delivering and assembling the cake? Your wedding day will be busy enough without having to worry about the cake arriving safely. It is well worth having the designer arrange delivery, and you should also be sure that whoever delivers the cake is capable of making emergency repairs to the cake decoration in case of minor mishaps during assembly. 6. If flowers are part of the cake decoration, will the cake designer provide them? Your florist is the best person to supply flowers, because you will want all of your floral arrangements to complement each other. Talk to the wedding cake designer, and provide them with your florist’s contact information. They should coordinate floral arrangements between themselves; all wedding suppliers are used to working with other professionals in the field. As in so many things, you should do your homework before you meet with your wedding cake designer. Stress will spoil the taste of even the most delicious cake. By taking the time to plan out these and any other questions, you will reduce your stress as your wedding day approaches. Don’t Overlook Articles If You Are Running an Online Business

May 9th, 2008 by concettaazevedo

By Allen Taylor You can’t run an Internet business without articles. That’s a fact. But exactly how should you approach the art of article writing? Well, for starters, you need to understand just what articles can and cannot do for you. They can’t turn a bad web site into a good one. They also can’t fix design issues, nor can they tap the Blue Rhapsody in top hat and cane. Other than that, they can do a heck of a lot to give your web site credibility and good content. Articles can be acquired a number of ways. You’re probably aware of that. You can buy one of those fancy PLR packages that have been circulating the Internet since 1997, or you can pay Charlie $2 per article to spell one syllable words incorrectly and copy-paste information from Wikipedia, or you can pay a professional writer to provide you with unique, one-of-a-kind content. Which method do you think will earn you the most respect online? If you guessed the third method you’d be correct. You’d also be in the minority as far as action steps web site owners go through to obtain unique content - that is, if you actually went through with it yourself. You have to be careful, though. There are plenty of so-called professional writers out there who claim to provide a premium service who can’t do much more than Charlie. Some of them work hard. Don’t get me wrong. But discriminating business owners look for more than just hard workers. You want someone who understands article writing and search engine optimization techniques. So what do you look for in a writer? First, you should look for writing ability. And history. If a writer doesn’t have any offline writing credits, you probably shouldn’t hire that writer. He’s not really a writer. Secondly, check the references. If a writer can’t produce any good references, he’s either not a credible writer or he’s so new to the profession that he hasn’t developed any yet. Do you want to take a chance on that writer? It depends. You might get a good deal on his services, but be sure you look at the quality of his work before you pay for it. Ask for samples, or ask if he’ll do your job on spec and pay if you’re satisfied. Many writers are willing to work for lower pay when they start out so they can build their portfolios. But if they fees are too low, they might be desparate. You’re better off paying Charlie. At least you’ll be able to fix his mistakes. The best advice I can give is get the best writer you can for a premium fee. That doesn’t necessarily mean the guy who costs the most. It just means the guy with the best credentials for the best fee. You’ll have to check around. Allen Taylor is an award-winning journalist, freelance writer and copywriter.
